GUWAHATI: Tension continued to simmer in Dhubri district of Assam over the death of 14 labourers in Meghalaya in a purported case of food poisoning.
A 12-hour bandh in the entire Dhubri district called by some organisations affected normal life.
The NH-31, running through the district, was blocked by protestors, disrupting traffic along the highway.
The protestors even raised anti-India slogans, while demanding a CBI enquiry into the deaths. Police later arrested the protestors and cleared the highway.
Fourteen labourers from Golakganj area of Dhubri were found dead on the morning of April 6 at a labour camp near their work site at Saipung in East Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya, allegedly after consuming a wild poisonous fruit.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has entrusted an additional chief secretary to probe into the matter. (UNI)
