SHILLONG: Students of the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Shillong on Friday boycotted classes on account of alleged high handedness on the part of the management of the institute.
Some students told reporters that the management of the institute threatened to disallow them from sitting for the final examinations due to their low attendance.
However, students alleged that there were hardly any practical classes conducted by the institute which discouraged them from attending classes.
The students also alleged that the teachers in the institute are under qualified.
Students further alleged that they were not being given any facility in the institute let alone helping them with  placements. The students also staged a protest in the campus and shouted slogans against the management of the institute.
Sensing trouble, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Later in the evening, students met the management of the institute to air their grievances.
