M’laya to have its own Directorate of Ayush

SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek on Friday said that the State will have its own directorate of Ayush.
Hek was speaking at a function organised to commemorate World Homoeopathic Day at Ayush Building, Shillong Civil Hospital.
He said that the Centre has been focusing on the development and popularization of Ayush medicine which is a part of the traditional Indian system of medicine.
The day also marked the 260th birth anniversary of Late Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of Homeopathy medicine.
Stating that countries like Germany, France and USA have already recognized the practice of Homoeopathy, he, however, rued that in the present system of medical practice, the traditional practice of medicine is yet to be widely popularized in India.
It may be mentioned that the Homoeopathic system of medicine was first introduced in the State Health Services in 1979. Thereafter a Homoeopathic dispensary was opened and commissioned in 1976 by the State Government. The homoeopathic system of medicine and treatment has now been introduced in all the 11 districts of the State.
Meanwhile, on the occasion, the Hahnemanian Oath was also administered to the BHMS doctors by the Registrar, Meghalaya Homoeopathic Board of Medicine and registration certificates were handed over by the Health Minister to the passed out BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery) doctors.
