International Street Children’s Day observed in city

SHILLONG: Reach Shillong Ministries celebrated International Street Children’s Day with a day-long programme here on Saturday. Street children from the city participated in different activities specially designed for them during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang emphasized on the need to have compassion for the street children.
The programme was attended by representatives from the Church, Social Welfare Department, Police department, NGOs and members of the public.
The highlight of the celebration was the release of 100 air balloons and a bike rally which saw active participation from the Meghalaya xBHP and the Bikers’ Association. The rally was flagged off by Kharkrang.
The children were seen grinning while pillion riding on these bikes covering the familiar streets of Shillong where they used to roam around.
A special concert was also organised for the children on the occasion.
