Cocaine worth Rs. 6.5 crore seized from Peruvian national
New Delhi: A 64-year-old Peruvian national has been arrested with 1.3 kg of pure cocaine worth Rs.6.5 crore in the international market, police said on Wednesday.Earlier, the Delhi Police had mistakenly valued the price of the cocaine at Rs.65 crore. However, joint commissioner of police (crime) Ravindra Yadav later clarified that the value of the drug in the international market was Rs.6.5 crore and not Rs.65 crore.”The value of cocaine seized in the international market is Rs.6.5 crore and not Rs.65 crore,” Ravindra Yadav told mediapersons.Peruvian national Armando was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here on Monday, when he arrived from Sao Paulo in Brazil via Dubai in an Emirates flight.The police said the drug was concealed in the cavities of the trolley bag wrapped in four layers of plastic and silver foil to avoid X-ray detection. Mufti says Tral encounter an “unfortunate” incident
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday termed the killing of a youth in Tral area of Pulwama district as “unfortunate”, saying the army should deal with the situation in the state “cautiously”. “It is an unfortunate incident. We will ascertain the facts in the case,” Sayeed told reporters here. He said such an incident should not have happened and the government would bring the facts of the incident to the fore. “Such an incident should not have happened. I do not want to go into the details as it would not be right. Inquiries happen every time, but we will really ascertain the facts in this case,” he said. Khalid Muzaffar Wani, brother of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan, was killed along with another youth in an army encounter in Buchoo forest of Tral on Monday, sparking violent protests. Asked about the different statements from army and state police over the incident, Sayeed said: “There are no different statements. The situation is very complex here and the army should deal with it cautiously”. The army had maintained that the duo were killed in an exchange of fire between militants and a patrol party. They also said that two AK assault rifles along with other weapons were recovered from Wani after the encounter. However, the state police had said earlier that according to the preliminary investigations, Wani had gone to the forest area to meet his brother and was caught in the cross-firing between the army and militants. Man arrested for beating wife to death
Udhagamandalam (TN): A 45-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly beating his wife to death in their house in Aiyyankolli, about 80 kms from here. Gopalan, a labourer belonging to a tribal community, reportedly used to pick up quarrel with his wife Valli (35) daily under the influence of alcohol, M Balasubramanian, Inspector of Police said. Gopalan, who had quarrelled with Valli last night, hit her with a wooden log this morning following which she suffered grievous injuries on her head and abdomen. She died on the spot, the police official said, adding, the accused was arrested. (PTI)
