Miscreants torch NF Rly properties

NONGPOH: Two JCBs and a water tanker belonging to North East Frontier Railway were torched by miscreants in the wee hours on Saturday at Byrnihat.
The JCBs and the water tanker were brought to Byrnihat for construction of rail line.
There is already protest from the pressure groups against setting up of rail line in Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi.
The North East Frontier Railway, Maligaon had engaged personnel for the preparation of broad guage railway line from Sonapur bordering Assam to Byrnihat in Meghalaya.
According to police, the incident took place at 1.30 am on Saturday as the miscreants hurled petrol bombs at Ronghana, Byrnihat.  An FIR was lodged by NF railway following the incident.
Soon after receiving information, the police personnel at the police out post at Byrnihat rushed to the spot, but in vain. The loss due to the destruction of the equipments is estimated at Rs 1. 70 crore
