Mangaluru: The 19th National Senior Athletic Championship for the Federation Cup would be held at the Mangala stadium here from April 30 to May 4.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would inaugurate the event, which is being held in Karnataka the first time.
District Minister-in-charge Ramanath Rai and Minister of Sports and Youth Empowerment K Abhayachandra Jain visited the Mangala stadium on Saturday to inspect the preparations for the championship, an official release said.
The ministers handed over a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to the Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim. The state sports department had already provided equipment worth Rs 50 lakh for the championship.
More than thousand athletes would participate in the five-dayevent. The participants for international competitions would be selected from among the winners in the meet.
The 19th Federation Cup is being organised jointly by the Karnataka Amateur Athletic Association, Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association and the district administration.
Bollywood star Suniel Shetty had confirmed his presence for the inaugural ceremony, the release said. (PTI)
