3 wanted Maoists surrender
Malkangiri (Odisha): Three Maoists, carrying cash rewards on their heads, on Monday surrendered in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, police said. The three ultras, including a woman cadre, who surrendered were allegedly involved in over 29 cases related to murder, landmine blasts, attacks on police and other offences, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said. The red rebels, identified as Irma Kabasi, Era Madkami and Radhika, carried Rs one lakh reward each on their head announced by Odisha Government, he said. Kabasi was allegedly involved in the naxal attack on a convoy of Congress leaders in Darbha Valley in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh in 2013, while the other two were active in Kalimela area of Malkangiri, he said. The ultras decided to surrender as they were disillusioned with the banned outfit and realised that the red rebels had deviated from the Maoist ideology, the SP said. Describing the surrender of the trio as a major success for police, he said the three would be rehabilitated as per the government’s policy. (PTI)
Dozen injured in group clash
Gorakhpur (UP): Over a dozen persons were injured when a clash broke out between two groups in Bhatpar Tola in Gagha area here, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday when some persons of a community allegedly set afire three huts in dalit locality and attacked the vehicle and house of BSP leader Ram Nayan Azad, they said. A clash broke out between the two groups in which over a dozen persons were injured, they said, adding, on complaint of the BSP leader, a FIR was registered against 100 persons including four named and rest unidentified. Pradeep Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) said that strict action would be initiated against those involved in the incident and security has been deployed in the dalit colony. Meanwhile, BSP state president Ram Achal Rajbhar also visited the locality and alleged that in Samajwadi party regime, atrocities on dalits have increased. He demanded strict action against those involved in the incident and threatened to launch stir if the demand was not met. (PTI)
NDMC to impart self-defence training
New Delhi: In the wake of rising incidents of crime against women, New Delhi Municipal Council has decided to impart self-defence training to its female employees. “The civic body’s security department and the workers union is organising a 10-day self-defence training programme for women employees,” a senior NDMC official said. “The workshop starting tomorrow will go on till April 30. Women safety and self-defence trips will be shared by expert trainers from the Special Police Unit for Women and Children,” the official said. After the conclusion of the workshop, the women employees will also give a demo of the skills learnt on ‘Mazdoor Divas’ which is on May 1. (PTI)
Tanzanian woman dies
New Delhi: A 25-year-old woman from Tanzania died after falling from the third floor of a building here on Sunday morning under mysterious circumstances, police said.The woman, identified as Malisha, fell from a residential building in south Delhi’s Safdarjung area around 11 a.m.”She was rushed to Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre, where she was declared dead on arrival due to excessive blood loss,” a police official said.Police are yet to ascertain whether the victim had jumped from the building in a bid to commit suicide or she was pushed by someone.Neighbours informed the police that she was engaged in a heated argument with someone inside her room prior to the incident.
