Another cricketer hospitalised in Kolkata with head injury
Kolkata: A day after the death of young cricketer Ankit Keshri due to an on-field injury, another cricketer Rahul Ghosh was hospitalised here on Tuesday after he sustained an injury while fielding during a local league game. “He has an injury in the left side of the head. There was bleeding. CT scan has been done. It shows a clot. He is now stable but has to be kept under observation for seven to eight days. Before that nothing conclusive can be said,” the attending doctor said. (IANS)
Messi can play for Barcelona till his retirement: Club president
Barcelona: Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu on Tuesday said he would like star player Lionel Messi to play for the club until his retirement. The Argentine has been at the club since he was 13, making his way through the youth system to win six Liga titles, three Champions Leagues and two Club World Cups with the team, plus four Ballon d’Or awards. He has a place here until he decides to quit football,” The club chief was asked about the likelihood of his team showing an interest in signing midfielder Paul Pogba from Italian side Juventus, but he said they are not thinking about it. “Pogba is a great player, but in this moment we are not thinking about additions. AIFF collaborates with German football association
New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday signed a partnership with German Football Association (DFB) for a at technical collaboration which would lay emphasis on Coach Education, Grassroots Programme and Youth Development. AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das signed on the dotted lines with Markus Weidner, Director Coach Education and International Relationship, DFB in Goa Tuesday. Besides delegates from FIFA, Indian National Team Head Coach Stephen Constantine and Technical Director Scott O’Donell were also present, as was Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, FIFA Regional Development Officer for South and Central Asia. Weidner mentioned that the DFB were “delighted” to enter into this agreement. “We are delighted to enter into this co-operation agreement with AIFF. The appointment of Mr. Nicolai Adam as the Head Coach of the India U-17 National Team which will be playing in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017 is the first step in our co-operation,” he told www.the-aiff.com Das highlighted the significance of having DFB on board. “It’s an extreme honour to enter into an agreement with the German Football Association. This partnership will usher in an overall technical development for Indian Football,” he said. Sales XI, Lumbatngen win
Shillong: Sandeep Roy all round performance went in vain after Nongmynsong were defeated by Sales XI by 4 wickets in the first semi-final of the Second Division Knock Out Cricket Tournament 2015 organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo, on Tuesday.
Nongmynsong elected to bat and scored 93 runs losing 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Sandeep Roy scored 45 runs off 55 balls and Gopal Das scored 15 runs off 19 balls. Nakul Das took 2 wickets for 12 runs and Swaroop Dey took 1 wicket for 11 runs for Sales XI.
In reply, Sales XI reached the target in 15.1 overs losing 6 wickets. Apurbo Rakshit remained unbeaten on 32 runs off 27 balls and Bappon Dutta scored 32 runs off 37 balls. Sandeep Roy took 4 wickets for 19 runs and Sumit Gurung took 1 wicket for 20 runs.
In the second semi-final Lumbatngen defeated Youth Club Shillong by 10 runs. Electing to bat first Lumbatngen were all out for 112 runs in 19.3 overs. Sujay Purkayastha scored 53 runs off 58 balls and L.K kohmanrhing 12 runs off 14 balls. Robin Singh and Sanjeev Chettri took 2 wickets each for Youth Club Shillong.
In reply, Youth Club were all out for 102 runs in 19.2 overs. Robin Singh topscored with 43 runs off 33 balls and Rakesh Rai scored 23 runs off 41 balls. M.D. Faruq Hussain took 3 wickets for 18 runs and Jaydeep Ghosh took 2 wickets for 15 runs for Lumbatngen.
The final match will be played between Lumbatngen and Sales XI on Wednesday.
Shooting camp
Shillong: The Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) will organize a one day awareness cum orientation camp on “Competition Class Weapons” on the 25 April at the Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley, Shillong. The participants have been shortlisted from the talent search previously held by the association. The categories for the participants are Juniors, Youth and Seniors totaling to 40 in number.
