‘Self-styled owner’ claims his land at Khanapara falls under Assam
NONGPOH: Members of the Dorbar of Them Marwet and Seng Longkmie in Khanapara seized a market complex in the area after the ‘self-styled’ owner of the land on which the commercial establishment stood allegedly claimed that the plot fell under Assam.
According to the leaders of the village dorbar and Seng Longkmie, the land belonged to a local resident Biju Narleng but one Babul Talukdar was allegedly staking claim to it.
Talukdar, the leaders said, has also claimed that the land was under the jurisdiction of the neighbouring state.
Following this conflict, members of the village dorbar and Seng Longkmie inspected the market complex operating on the land on Saturday and seized it. Members of the KSU (northern border area) were also present at the spot.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Them Marwet Rangbah Shnong, Jeremi Lyngdoh said that the claim of the self-styled land owner that the land was registered in Assam was baseless
“The land falls under the jurisdiction of the village,” he asserted adding that the conflict was a result of the indifferent attitude of the State Government and the KHADC in pursuing a solution to the boundary row.
He also demanded the KHADC to intervene in the matter and prohibit non-tribals from running business without valid documents.
The KSU, while extending support to the Dorbar, urged the district council to act against the non-tribal traders running businesses without license.
The pressure group warned that it would be forced to take the matter into its own hands if the district council fails to act appropriately.
