Two women arrested

SHILLONG: Police have arrested two women in connection with the death of a 40-year-old woman whose decomposed body was recovered from a house at Rynjah on Saturday last.
The victim has been identified as B Suchiang of Shangpung village in East Jaintia Hills
The arrested women are Waiamon Kharlukhi of Mawlai Umshorshor and Winnie Ryntathiang of Rynjah.
Informing this, East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang on Monday said that the decomposed body of Suchiang was recovered from the house of Ryntathiang.
According to Kharkrang, the deceased was on fasting since the last week of February as part of some religious rituals.
“The two arrested women never revealed about Suchiang’s death since according to their religious belief she would again be alive after 40 days,” the district police chief said.
Meanwhile, Kharkrang said that the matter was reported to police by the people of the locality after stench started emanating from the house.
Police seized a number of diaries from the house, he said adding that the post-mortem report was awaited.
Kharlukhi, who was a roommate of Suchiang, had shifted to another locality in Mawlai in the city after Suchiang’s death and used to come every day to the house to offer prayer, a locality elder said.
