Contempt of court case against KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum

SHILLONG: The Supreme Court has categorically directed the High Court of Meghalaya to decide on the contempt of court proceeding against KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum without being ‘influenced’ in any manner.
While hearing the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the KHADC on March 13, a bench comprising Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre in its order on Wednesday stated, “the Division Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya shall proceed to decide the ‘contempt petition’ pending before it withoutbeing influenced, in any manner, whatsoever in the order passed by the single judge on January 27, 2015.”
The single bench in its order on January 27 last had observed that the statements made by the CEM in a public rally was contemptuous of the order passed by the same court relating to the headman and found him liable for contempt.
Justice SR Sen had referred the contempt of court proceedings against the CEM to the Division Bench since the appeal against the ruling of the single bench is lying before the same Division Bench.
Though the order in the case of the ruling of the headmen was also put up before the apex court, sources on Wednesday informed that no order was passed as the appeal is still pending before the Division Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya.
