Gadkari to formally open Shillong By-Pass today

SHILLONG: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will dedicate the Shillong By-Pass to the nation on Friday. But 65 land owners who had parted with their land for this project are yet to receive the compensation money.
The Revenue department is still examining the proposal for payment of the compensation to the land owners for acquisition of additional land measuring around 1.4 hectares of the two-laning Shillong By-Pass.
The land was acquired by the Government in January, 2014.
The inaugural function will be held at Umiew village near the Shillong Airport at Umroi.
“The proposal for the final award of the land compensation of the additional land has been submitted to the Revenue department. We are expecting to get the approval within the next 15 days,” Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Pooja Pandey said on Thursday.
She also said that the fund for the payment of the land compensation was already available with her office.
“The amount will be distributed once we get the approval,” Ms Pandey said.
