Threatens to regroup as one with other outfits

TURA: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has claimed that AMEF ‘commander-in-chief’ Jack Marak who was killed by police in Kharkutta on Saturday was taunted and tortured instead of being given immediate medical help before he finally succumbed to his injuries.
“The absence of medical help coupled with constant physical abuse led to his untimely demise. Such barbaric act is condemnable. Hunting us (militants) down and the divide and rule policy by the government is not going to demoralize our armed struggle,” senior GNLA leader Savio Ch Marak said in a statement.
He alleged that operations were being intensified in Kharkutta at the behest of local MLA, Cherak Momin, adding it was now clear that representatives of public themselves were betraying their own people.
“The police are killing the leaders of the armed struggle one by one. There is a deep rooted conspiracy behind this. The Government does not want peace, this is clear now,” he said.
Savio maintained that Jack and all others who deserted the GNLA were still their brothers although they had their differences on beliefs and ideologies.
“We grieve his demise. We are born of ‘Garo’ mothers. Whenever any cadre or soldier from another group gets killed we mourn for him, because we are of the same blood and we are from the same soil,” he added.
“We are one. Don’t belittle and underestimate our strength. If need be, all brothers in arms will regroup  as one ‘GNLA’ and fight back and continue with our armed struggle for Garoland. We will not stop till the goal is achieved,” Marak asserted.
Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that AMEF chief Jack Marak was earlier with the GNLA and then joined ASAK to become its finance secretary before finally floating his own outfit, the AMEF.
