Cemented road in State

SHILLONG: The state government is yet to decide on the proposal of the Centre to have cemented roads in the state.
During the dedication ceremony related to Shillong bypass on April 30, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that his Ministry was considering constructing cemented concrete roads which has lasting shelf life due to rain than bitumen road.
He had also said that for this, 107 cement plants from 37 companies had signed an agreement to provide cements at an affordable rate ranging from Rs 120/130/150 per bag.
The Union Minister also urged the Meghalaya Government to consider this proposal to reduce the cost incurred in constructing road projects.
Asked about the stand of the state government on the suggestion of Gadkari, Meghalaya PWD (Roads) Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the Government will have to meet first before committing on the suggestion of the Union Minister.
“We have to first of all assess which one will be cost effective”, Dhar said, while appreciating the suggestion of the Centre.
