New Delhi: An inspection team of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) recently imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on a staff of the Meghalaya House in New Delhi for burning dead leaves in the open. An FIR was also lodged in this regard, an NDMC official informed here on Sunday.
The NDMC has decided to adopt a zero- tolerance policy on burning of leaves, plastic and garbage in open areas in the national capital after the National Green Tribunal came down heavily on NDMC over its failure to check burning of nearly one tonne leaves in Lodhi Garden area.
NDMC has imposed a complete ban on burning of wastes, including garbage, leaves, plastic and crop residues, in the open areas, and has announced a fine of Rs. 5,000 for violators. NDMC has constituted two teams to conduct field inspections and keep a check on such incidents in order to curb air pollution. (PTI)
