‘Action taken against jail staff’

W’nagar jailbreak

SHILLONG: Police have taken against some prison staff for May 3 Williamnagar jailbreak which resulted in escape of six prisoners including militants.
Informing this on Monday, the Additional DG (Prisons) BL Buam, however, did not reveal the names of the jail staff and the nature of action by stating that the report of the magisterial inquiry was awaited.
The official said that the inquiry was carried out by him on  May 3 night and the next day.
“I have already submitted the report to Government and action has already been taken against staff. Other aspects are under process. We are also waiting for the magisterial inquiry to compete for further action,” Buam said.
Out of the six prisoners escaped and still at large Jasan Ch Marak and Grewith D Sangma belonged to GNLA, while Sengchang Sangma, Raksim Momin and Dinesh Marak are from ASAK. The sixth one is a convicted rapist of Williamnagar girl identified as Chingkam Ch Marak.
