ED to take two accused of IPL betting to Gujarat
New Delhi: Two men arrested by the Enforcement Directorate here for running a hawala racket and betting syndicate related to the ongoing Indian Premier League tournament, will be taken by the agency to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for investigation. A court here on Monday gave the Enforcement Directorate three days’ transit remand of the two men and directed the agency to present them before a local court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on May 13. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal granted the ED the transit remand of accused Ritesh Bansal and Ankush Bansal. The ED arrested the duo from Delhi, alleging that they were involved in sending the money in and outside the country through hawala transactions. The ED told court that there is a hawala racket worth Rs.800 crore going on, and that the large-scale racket in online international cricket betting was taking place through Britain-based website “Betfair.com”. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). (IANS)
Kings XI release Johnson, Marsh
Mohali: Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Monday released batsman Shaun Marsh and pacer Mitchell Johnson so that they can prepare ahead of Australia’s tour of the West Indies.”Two of our players Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Johnson have been granted permission to return home at their request for preparation of the upcoming West Indies Tour,” KXIP said in a statement. “While both the players have been of great significance to the team and contributed immensely, we respect our players’ decisions.” KXIP are languishing at the bottom of the table with only two wins from 11 matches and are out of race to qualify for the play-offs. However, the George Bailey-captained side that its has a strong squad to make up for the Australian duo’s absence. “We have a fine line up in place and are hopeful of a good performance in the upcoming matches.” KXIP face fifth placed Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.
