NONGSTOIN: A public meeting with all the Sordars and secretaries of all the villages within Nongstoin C&RD Block was held on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Nongstoin MLA H.S. Lyngdoh, Mawshynrut MLA W. Mawsor, West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh, PHE Executive Engineer, Nongstoin Division A. Nongstoin BDO V. He stated that the meeting would provide a platform for all the district officers to share and disseminate awareness on various schemes and programmes implemented by them.
On the other hand, the Sordars can interact and seek more information with all the implementing agencies and service providers on various schemes, Swer said.
Mawshynrut legislator W. Mawsor lauded the steps taken by the Nongstoin C&RD Block to create a platform where all the officers and political leaders could converge and meet the people.
“The elected representatives are keen to work with the support of the departmental officials for the successful implementation of both Central and State government schemes and this synergy will take everyone forward in the path of growth and development,” Mawsor said.
West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh said guidelines for implementation of State and Central scheme were changing and people have to update themselves on the same.
Requirement of Bank Account Number and Aadhaar Card Number are some examples of the changed guidelines, he said, adding that the district administration was in the process of implementing the NPR Phase II for ultimate generation of Aadhaar number.
“The Aadhaar number shall eventually be used in all schemes and programmes of the Government including MGNREGS, EPIC and payment of scholarships etc. The enrolment team shall visit each cluster centres like polling station for enrolment of all residents from the age of five years and above,” Kharlyngdoh said.
He stated that the enrolment would be in the form of biometric recording and exhorted the people not to believe in rumours about Aadhaar spread by people having no knowledge about it.
Kharlyngdoh called upon the Sordars to lend their support and co-operation for successful implementation of NPR Phase II.
Nongstoin MDC L.G. Nongsiej agreed that initiatives like Tuesday’s meeting would bring the people closer to the government departments and officials implementing various schemes.
“There are many scheme and programme of the Government with different instruction and guidelines. The success of their implementation can be ensured if the people know about them,” Nongsiej said.
