Guwahati: In a joint operation Army and Assam police gunned down an area commander, Seme Kro, of proscribed Karbi Peoples’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) on Monday following a fierce encounter near Bhelughat area in Karbi Anglong district.
The Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT), earlier known as Anti-Talks Factions of Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF-ATF) was formed at an undisclosed location on January 8, 2011. The outfit was formed with 25 cadres of KLNLF-ATF who formally rechristened itself as KPLT.
A defence source informed that, acting on a tip-off about movement of Karbi Peoples’s Liberation Tigers or KPLT ultras near Bhelughat area, the joint team of Army and Assam police launched the operation on Sunday night.
The party established ambushes in the general area and in the ensuing fire fight Seme Kro ,self-styled Karbi Peoples’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) area commander of Bhelughat area was killed.
Security Forces have also recovered one7.65mm Pistol with magazine, one live round of ammunition and other incriminatory documents from the spot.In another operation, a joint team of Army and Assam Police apprehended one National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA) terrorist on Sunday from Silaimatha in Kokrajhar district.
The terrorist has been identified as Sarkar Hasda. One 7.65 mm Pistol factory made and live ammunition has been recovered from the terrorist. The terrorist during the interrogation confessed to himself as being a close associate of Sakai (Area Commander of National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA) in Parbatjhora) and Lakhiram (Commander-in-Chief of NSLA).
