Guwahati:  One labourer was killed and two others were injured in rain-triggered landslide in Guwahati today even as parts of the city reeled under floods. Mudslide in Patharquarry area of the city caused the death of one labourer and left two others injured. Heavy showers in the wee hours caused the landslide, while parts of the city were also inundated following the rain. Power supply to a part of the city was also disrupted as trees were uprooted by the early morning storm and electricity wires cut-off. Despite claims by the authorities that the water logging in the city will be controlled this year, two major floods have already caused problems for the denizens.
As Additional Chief Secretary to CM MGVK Bhanu, who has been leading the government initiative in making Guwahati flood-free, inspected the areas where the problem occurred, he was faced with public ire. Seeking to pacify the agitated people, he said the water-logging problem will be completely solved in two years and it will be substantially brought down before that. (UNI)
