Adelbert’s stir enters 5th day

SHILLONG: The ordinance to empower headmen okayed by the Cabinet on May 11 is awaiting Governor’s approval.
An official source said on Wednesday that there will be delay for the approval of the ordinance as the new Governor has to examine all aspects of it before giving his nod.
Last week, the Law department had sent the ordinance for the approval of the Governor.
Pending the assent of the Governor and the official notification, the ordinance will not be effective and the headmen cannot issue certificates till the ordinance is notified, the official source added.
Adelbert’s stir enters 5th day :The indefinite hunger strike of former KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum and young supporter Goldy Wajri has entered the fifth day on Wednesday.
Nongrum has been on indefinite hunger strike since Saturday demanding the state government’s nod to the Village Administration Bill, 2014.
The health condition of the duo is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, official sources on Wednesday informed that the meeting convened by the District Council Affairs with the members of both the KHADC and JHADC to discuss the  village Administration Bill will be held on May 27.
On Tuesday, the Minister in charge of District Council Affairs, HDR Lyngdoh said that he would soon convene a meeting of the members of the two councils to discuss the Bill.
