Workshop aimed at developing skill of writing among participants
SHILLONG: A two-day National Workshop on Creative Writing in English was organized by the Department of English, Shillong College, in collaboration with the North East Writers’ Forum on May 21 and 22.
The main aim of the workshop was to develop the skill of writing among the participants apart from providing a platform to creative talents.
As part of the workshop, the interactive sessions focused on various genres like poetry, short story, feature writing, children’s writing and the art of reviewing.
Speaking at the valedictory function, R.G. Lyngdoh, Vice Chancellor, Martin Luther Christian University, who is himself a writer, lauded the efforts of the organizers for recognizing the unsung and unrecognized talents of the country and particularly from the North East.
The workshop, he hoped, would be the first step of many more fruitful activities.
While referring to his love for writing, Lyngdoh said writing was for him a medium of dealing with stress. He encouraged the participants to write and voice out their concerns.
It may be added that eminent writers like Padma Shri awardee Mamang Dai, Dr. Ashes Gupta from Tripura, Ramendra Kumar from Odisha and Mitra Phukan and Dhrubajyoti Harazika from Assam, among others, were the resource persons for the programme attended by more than a hundred participants from different parts of the country and the region.
