1200 kg drugs seized in Nagaland
Kohima: Around 1200 kgs of drugs, worth Rs 50 lakh, were seized from a vehicle at Peducha check gate on National Highway 29 in Nagaland, police said on Sunday. The ganja was concealed inside the chamber of an LPG carrier which was moving along with a convoy of LPG carriers escorted by CRPF and armed personnel on Friday, spokesman of Kohima police Atu Zumvu said here. As the driver was unable to satisfactorily respond to queries, police searched the vehicle and found the contraband worth Rs 50 lakh, he said, adding, the driver was arrested. (PTI)
Mon DC of Nagaland bans
explosive, crackers
Kohima: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mon district Honje Konyak has directed all quarries including Departments dealing with detonation of explosive for road maintenance, to obtain prior permission from the DC and also duly inform security forces prior to ignition of such explosives. An official statement on Sunday said the notice issued by Mr Honje explained that the directive was issued in view of the prevailing security situation and development of a volatile law and order scenario in Mon district where security forces were on high alert. Further, Mr Honje also banned sale and use of fire crackers in the district till further orders to avoid mistakes and confusions in the prevailing situation. The DC also warned that those violating the order, which came into effect from May 22, would be dealt with appropriately under sections of the law. (UNI)
Nagaland NEZCC invites artists for empanelment
Kohima: The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) in Dimapur under Union Ministry of Culture has invited applications from artists, performers, cultural groups and artisans from the North Eastern States for formal empanelment with NEZCC. In an official statement today, NEZCC Director, Lipokmar Tzudir said the mandate of NEZCC is to preserve, innovate and promote the projections and dissemination of arts of the region and to upgrade and enrich consciousness of the people about their cultural heritage. Special efforts are made to encourage folk and tribal arts and to preserve and strengthen the vanishing art forms. To achieve these objectives, the NEZCC provides opportunities to the folk and tribal cultural troupes, crafts persons, traditional chefs (Cuisine Artisans), mime and puppetry, traditional healing and medicines, traditional games to participate in cultural festivals and melas organized in the region and other parts of the country.Interested folk and tribal cultural troupes and crafts persons may submit their application for empanelment with NEZCC. Bandh affects normal life in Manipur
Imphal: Normal life was affected on Saturday during the day-long Manipur bandh called by three civil society organisations in protest against land encroachment in the border areas allegedly by Nagas. Markets, shops, business establishments and educational institutions in Imphal were closed. Attendance in government offices was thin and Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur transport services were suspended, officials said. Inter-state, inter-district, inter-village and public transport services like bus, taxi and autorickshow were off the road in the entire state, they said. The bandh was called by the Committee for Koziirii-Dzuko Land Boundary Resolution (CKDLBR), United Committee of Manipur (UCM) and All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) and supported by BJP, CPI, Manipur People Party (MPP) and JD(U).
