Guwahati: Garos living in Assam are all set to get an autonomous council for them as chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday assured them of one. A 12-member delegation of Garo National Union met the chief minister Tarun Gogoi at his office at Assam secretariat on Moday and submitted a memorandum to press for their demand for the creation of Garo Autonomous Council in the state.
The Union led by its advisor Dr. M.S. Sangma requested the Chief Minister to take step for the implementation of their demand.
Chief minister Gogoi while reiterating his intent for the welfare of all sections of the society assured the Garo National Union leaders of taking adequate measures to fulfil their demand.
He further said the government is in the process of meeting procedural requirements in giving shape to the Autonomous Council. He moreover, assured to dispose the matter in the coming Assembly Session in the state.
