Assam sends ‘Maggi’ samples for lab test
Guwahati: Assam government on Wednesday said it has sent 34 samples of ‘Maggi’ for testing in government laboratory. “We have collected 34 samples from all the districts and sent them to government laboratory for testing. We cannot say anything now before the reports come in,” Assam Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Sanjeeva Kumar said. The government had collected the samples around a week ago after the news of Uttar Pradesh FDA finding of higher than stipulated levels of lead and monosodium glutamate (MSG) in Maggi came in, he said. “The reports are expected by this evening or tomorrow morning. Assam girl rescued from Haryana
Rangiya (Assam): A minor girl, who was allegedly trafficked from here alongwith two others has been rescued from Haryana and three persons were arrested in connection, police said on Wednesday. Three girls from Assam’s Kamrup (Rural) and Nalbari districts were allegedly lured by two persons, identified as Rahul Ali and Nizam Ali, and were taken to Haryana where the duo sold them to a person for Rs 25,000 each, police said here. They were arrested last week and during an interrogation Rahul confessed about the crime, they said. Assam police personnel with the help of Haryana police traced one of the victim at Palam village and rescued her. The person to whom she was sold was arrested yesterday and was identified as Mahendra Singh. Singh was remanded to judicial custody on Wednesday.  (PTI)
Mizoram Narcotics seize 49,400 Metamphetamine tablets
Aizawl: Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department’s Anti Narcotics Squad seized 49,400 tablets of Methamphetamine at Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai town last night, the department’s spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga on Wednesday said.Zohmingthanga said that three persons, including a woman, all residents of Champhai were arrested in this connection.He said that the seized contraband, reportedly smuggled from Myanmar, is worth around Rs 123.50 lakh in the local market.The three accused persons were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985. Manipur govt to ask SGI to demarcate Manipur-Naga border
Imphal: The Manipur government has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to amicably solve the border dispute between Manipur and Nagaland and also decided to approach the Survey General of India (SGI) to demarcate the border of the two states. In a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, the state government decided to request the SGI to demarcate the borders of Manipur and Nagaland to solve the ongoing stand off on the frontier issue, state government spokesperson M Okendro told reporters.Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh informed those present at the meeting that he had written a letter to Modi urging him to solve the issue amicably, he said. Manipur chief minister also urged his Nagaland counterpart to solve the border issue as early as possible, he said, adding, that a ministerial team of Manipur would visit Dzuko valley to take stock of the ground reality of the current situation. BSNL NE II Circle, Dimapur launches free pre-paid SIM cards
Kohima: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) NE II Circle, consisting of three states of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, has launched a promotional offer giving 64K SIM free of cost and 128K SIM at a reduced cost of Rs 30 each. According to a statement issued by BSNL stated that the offer will be available for 90 days with effect from June 1. The customers will get 128K SIM at a reduced cost of Rs 30 instead of the original cost of Rs 59 during the offer period. Customers can approach CSC or DSA or Franchisee to have new GSM prepaid connection with the necessary documents. The offer has been given to esteemed customers as a goodwill gesture to the people of the three states, the statement added. (UNI)
Rail blockade affects train services
Rangiya (Assam): Train services were affected for about two hours on Wednesday following a rail blockade called by the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AAKRSU) in Kamrup (Rural) district. More than 200 AAKRSU agitators blocked train tracks at Kendukona Railway station from 9 AM affecting movement of several trains, an official of the North East Frontier Railway official said here. Police took into custody nearly 150 agitators who were demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Koch-Rajbongshis and a separate Kamtapur state. Security was tightened at Rangiya railway station, where the protesters were earlier planning the blockade, but later they moved to the next Kendukona station, he said. The trains affected were the Siphung Passenger, detained at Rangiya, Kamakhya-Alipurduar Inter City Express, detained at Nalbari, Dekargaon Express, stopped between Kendukona and Rangiya while the Dn Trivandrum Express and North East Express were controlled at Guwahati Railway station, he said.
