Bihar polls from October 12, counting on November 8

New Delhi: Elections to the 243 Bihar Assembly seats will be held in five phases from October 12 to November Five.
Announcing the schedule for the polls, Chief Electioner Commissioner Dr Nasim Zaidi said the counting of votes would take place on November 8 and the election process would be completed before November 12.
The election process will be set into motion with the announcement of the notification for the first phase on September 16.
Polling for the the first phase will take place on October 12 and Counting of votes will be held on November 8. Mr Zaidi said all necessary arrangements had been made for a free fair and peaceful elections.
All political parties in the state have demanded CRPF, CISF and BSF forces for the polls.
Atleast 47 assembly segments are affected by Left-wing extremist areas and securing these segments was a priority, he said.
The term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly comes to an end on November 29.
With the announcement of election dates, the model code of conduct had come into force with immediate effect, Dr Zaidi said.
As many as 49 Assembly constituencies, including those of Samastipur, would go to polls in the first phase for which polling will take place on October 12. The last date for nomination is September 23, for scrutiny September 24 and for withdrawal is September 26.
The Second Phase, polling for which will take place on October 16, involves 32 seats, including Rohtas, Jahanabad, Gaya and Aurangabad.
Notification for this phase will be issued on September 21 and the last date of filing nomination is September 28 and for scrutiny and withdrawal is September 29 and October 12 respectively.
The Third phase has 50 seats, including Vaishali, Saran, Patna.Notification for this phase will be issued on October 1, while the last date of filing nomination is October 8 and scrutiny and withdrawal is October 9 and 12 respectively. Polling for this phase will take place on October 28.
The last date for filing nominations is October 14, and for scrutiny and withdrawal is October 15 and 17 respectively. (UNI)
