7 coal labourers arrested in EJH

JOWAI: Seven coal labourers, all from Assam, were arrested from Jaintia Cement and Moo Pala areas in East Jaintia Hills on Friday for illegally extracting coal from two separate coal mines in violation of the NGT order.
East Jaintia Hills police confirmed that five labourers arrested from Jaintia Cement area were engaged by the mine owner identified as Syrpai Sutnga while the two others arrested from Moo Pala village have not identified the mine owners.
“We caught them red handed on Friday during a routine raid conducted on coal mines in East Jaintia Hills,” a police officer said.
All the arrested persons along with the mine owner have been booked under appropriate section of law.
