AR exchange fire with NSCN-K in Nagaland

Kohima: The NSCN-K cadres and Assam Rifles personnel were involved in exchange of heavy firing in Phokhungri and Avangkhu, under Meluri sub-division of Phek district on Thursday.
The ADC of Meluri has confirmed that the incident took place on September 10. However, no casualties were reported and has deputed the EAC Phokhungri to probe into the matter.
According to Pochury Hoho President Penthu Pochury, the firing occurred when the army personnel went patrolling in that area in ten army vehicles. They blank fired to scare the NSCN-K cadres. According to a villager, it was NSCN (K), cadres who fired first. Another villager also said that it was NSCN (K) cadres who fired first against the army patrolling team. The fact could not be confirmed officially.
According to sources, the army vehicles have been returned to Phokhungri, but the army personnel are yet to arrive from Avanghku.
Avangkhu is the last Pochury village, bordering Myanmar and is about 134 km away from Meluri, whereas Phokhungri is 122 km from Meluri town. (UNI)
