JAC bandh in Manipur, escort for trucks

IMPHAL: Life was disrupted in the wake of the bandh called by Joint Action Committee (JAC) against passage of three Manipur government bills in Sadar Hills area of Senapati district on Friday.
There was no report of any untoward incident, officials said adding trucks laden with oil, rice, onion, potato were passing through National Highway No 2 (Dimapur to Imphal via Sadar Hills) with CRPF and Manipur police escorts.
Similarly, along the Imphal-Silchar National High Way No.37 all the trucks transporting essentials have reached Imphal safely with security escort passsing through Sadar Hills area, the sources said.
According to reports, the bandh, which began since Thursday night, disrupted life as there were fewer vehicular traffic on roads.
In Manipur’s Churachandpur district, Auto-rickshaw drivers protested against passing of the bills by the assembly on August 31.
The demonstation covered 12 km distance from Kawnpui Playgound to Kangvai.
In a related development, the JAC, Churachandpur announced today that there would be relaxation of Churachandpur town bandh on Saturday from 5 am to 10 am, sources said. (PTI)
