Imphal: A woman and two minors were tested positive for dreaded Japanese Encephalitis during the past fortnight in the state capital and its adjoining areas.
According to Manipur Family Welfare Services Director O Ibomcha Singh, there was no need of panic, though he expressed concern over the current situation after the recent flooding in the state, especially Imphal valley.
The blood specimen collected from Ibechaobi Devi (70) from Sagolband was found positive by the state referral laboratory last week-end even as generally majority of the children are affected by the disease.
Earlier, 8-year-old boy Machangbou and Laisram Kishan (14) of Kundrakpam tested positive on August 27 and 29 respectively, said Dr Singh.
Informed that the transmission of JE principally occurs in rural agricultural areas and is often associated with rice cultivation and irrigation.  (UNI)
