SHILLONG: The All  Meghalaya Contractor & Supllier Association (AMC&SA) has filed a writ petiton before the High Court of Meghalaya against the Centre and the State Government objecting to frequent hike of cement prices by cement companies operating in the State.
AMC&SA general secretary BL Nongbri on Sunday informed that following the issuance of the show cause notice, the High Court had on Friday last directed both the State Government and the Centre to file their replies within 10 days.
He also informed that the Court has fixed the next hearing on September 29.
“Despite enjoying several benefits and subsidies from the State Government, the cement companies are continuing to hike the price of cement,” the AMC&SA general secretary said adding that such a move was unacceptable.
According to him, cement fell under essential commodities since it is used not only to construct houses but also schools, colleges and hospitals.
“Keeping this in  mind we decided to file a case on the matter in the greater interest of the people of the State,” Nomgbri said while calling upon fellow contractors to join the association in the fight.
