SHILLONG: Vexed with the delay on the part of Governor V. Shanmuganathan to give his assent to the Village Administration Bills passed by the KHADC and the JHADC, the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SKNSKBH) has decided to hold a ‘peaceful march’ along the road surrounding the Raj Bhavan on September 18.
“We will take out a peaceful march to express our disappointment at the failure of the Governor to give his assent to the bills of the KHADC and JHADC which aims to empower the Dorbar Shnong and the Rangbah Shnong,” SKNSKBN secretary R.L. Blah said in a statement here on Sunday.
He also requested the various Dorbar Shnong within Shillong and its outskirts to send at least ten representatives each to participate in the peaceful march.
“Due to limitation of time, we are going to organise the protest in a small way. We would launch a bigger protest in the near future if the Governor continues to delay his assent to the two bills,” Blah said.
He said that the peaceful march would oppose the delay on the part of the State Government to withdraw the ordinance and also show the Synjuk’s opposition to the proposed draft bill to empower the traditional head in the State.
Blah further said that they were not happy over the refusal of the State Government to withdraw its notification to club the ten localities within Shillong under the ‘Census Town’ and also on government’s desire to implement the Meghalaya Building Bye-Laws, 2011 in the scheduled areas.
