Civic police volunteers lathi-charged, 15 injured
Malda (WB): The police on Monday lathi-charged at a gathering of civic police volunteers in Malda district, injuring at least 15 of them. The civic police volunteers were stopped at Rejent Park area of the town just before they were to begin a procession to the office of Superintendent of Police Prasun Bandyopadhyay to demand regularisation of payment, the police said. The volunteers were told they did not have permission to hold the procession, following which an altercation took place, the police said. The volunteers started pelting stones on the policemen, who then used batons to disperse them. Fifteen injured persons were taken to hospital and 10 others were detained, the police said. “A written intimation was given to the English Bazar police station on the programme on September 8 but no reply came from the side of the police,” said Sanjay Paria, state president of the Civic Police Association. Paria, who was present at the site, said they wanted to submit a deputation to the SP demanding regularisation of payment. There are about 1,30,000 civic police volunteers in the state and 4,800 in Malda district, he said. Civic Police Volunteers are posted in various road crossings to assist the police in controlling traffic movement. (PTI)
Clash between two groups over eve-teasing in UP
Muzaffarnagar: At least six persons were injured in a clash between members of two castes after a girl was allegedly harassed by some youths at Gajawali locality here, police said on Monday. The girl was allegedly harassed by youths belonging to a different caste on Saturday following which a panchayat was convened last night to resolve the differences between the two castes, they said. The discussion took a violent turn leading to a clash which left at least six persons injured, they further said. Police rushed to spot and brought the situation under control, they said, adding, security has been tightened in the area and extra forces have been deployed. (PTI)
Illegal trade of explosives flourishing in Petlawad
Jhabua, MP: Illegal trade of detonators and gelatin sticks is flourishing in tribal dominated Jhabua and Alirajpur districts of Madhya Pradesh due to its geographical conditions. According to sources, about 10 people in these districts own licenses to trade in explosives. These men are engaged in carrying out underground explosions for making ponds and wells due to rocky terrain. Besides them, several other people carry out illegal trade in explosives. Most of the license holders are influential people. Most work related to explosions is done in Petlawad. So, many people store explosive material — brought from Jaora, Mandsaur and several places in Rajasthan — illegally. (UNI)
3 bodies with bullet wounds found in Baramulla
Srinagar: Bodies of three men with bullet wounds and torture marks were on Monday found in a village in Pattan township of Baramulla district in north Kashmir. “Bodies of the three unidentified youths, aged between 20 and 30 years, were recovered from Dangerpora on Nihalpora-Wailoo road,” 30 kms from here, a police official said. The police got the information about the sighting of the bodies in the village and immediately rushed to the scene, he said. “The bodies of the youths bore torture and bullet marks,” the officer said. “The police has taken cognizance and started investigations,” he said. Six policemen suspended after violence in UP village
Aligarh (UP): Six police personnel including a police station incharge were suspended here for allegedly failing to control a mob which attempted to beat 11 persons who were later nabbed by the police for ‘trying’ to supply beef. The incident occurred in Kastali village last evening following which Ramdarsh Yadav, incharge of Jawan police station, and five other policemen were suspended, police said on Monday. At least four policemen were injured in the incident, they said. According to the police, a villager from a neighbouring village, Sumera  noticed a van standing by the roadside which appeared to be carrying a consignment of meat. He immediately informed the police but by the time the cops arrived, a large mob from the neighbouring village had gathered at the spot and allegedly assaulted the traffickers. The protesters allegedly blocked traffic on the main Anoopshahar road and resorted to brick batting and several vehicles were damaged and a matador set on fire, police said. Later, the situation was brought under control and the alleged traffickers arrested by the police. They include, Dal Singh, Vijay Singh, Vijay Pal, Ram Singh, Durga, Sharma Singh, Gobha, Soji Singh, Mohar Singh, Mohan Lal and Shobha. All of them hail from Rajasthan, they said. (PTI)
Bombay HC notices UP minister over his Taliban funding comment
Rampur: Controversial Uttar Pradesh Minister Mohammad Azam Khan has disclosed that Bombay High Court has sent him a notice over his reported statement that Taliban was funding his Jauhar Ali University. “I don’t know why people hate me so much even as I am trying to devote myself for uplifting the education system,” he said. Khan, state Urban Development and Minority Welfare Minister, who was inaugurating a madarsa in the city here last evening, disclosed that Bombay high court has sent him a notice and sought his reply over his statement that Taliban was funding his university. Khan said that several people have donated for the University and among them several are from other communities, who want to uplift of the education system in the state. “I don’t know why people are so rude against me and even abuse me on the social networking sites,” he said, while adding that when he try to take action against the people who are waging hate war against him through social sites, the Allahabad High Court sends him notices. The UP Minister said he “respects both judiciary and the Constitution hence will give reply to all the queries of the Bombay and Allahabad High courts.” (UNI)
