Opposition by Khasi states
The Federation of Khasi States has expressed its opposition to any bill related to empowering the traditional institutions which will clash with the powers enshrined in Part 3 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India. Adviser, Federation of Khasi States, Laborious Manik Syiem, has shot off a letter to Chief Adviser to the Meghalaya Government, D.D. Lapang.
Hindi Diwas observed
Hindi Day was observed at Rup Rekha Parishad, Lower Jail Road, Shillong, on Monday. The programme was organized by the Meghalaya Hindi Prachar Parishad. Minister, Health & Family Welfare, IT, A.L. Hek graced the function as the chief guest. Souvenirs titled Deep Sikha the 12th edition and Srikhand Setu were released in the presence of guests, teaching staff and students.
Notice to offenders
The Board of Directors, Shillong Club Ltd., has taken note of some people spoiling the Golf Course especially the greens and fairways by playing cricket and football and indulging in other undesirable activities which is against the rules. Anyone found committing such illegalities will be liable to prosecution under the laws of the land, the Board said.
Demand for shelter home
The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement has asked the State Government to set up shelter homes for victims of drug abuse and HIV affected people. In a memorandum submitted to Health and Family Welfare Minister A.L. Hek on Monday, HANM said that treatment and counseling can also be given to the affected people in the shelter homes which should be set up in all the districts of the State.
Teachers’ meet on Sept 19
The general council meeting of the All Meghalaya Government Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association will be held on September 19 at 11 am at Government UP School, Mawlai Nongkwar. The Association has urged all the teachers of government upper primary schools in Meghalaya to attend the said meeting.
Birth centenary
Chinmaya Mission, Shillong, will bring to the people of the city, Chinmaya Jyoti Yatra Sandesh Vahini marking the celebration of the birth centenary of Swami Chinmayanandaji. A Yagnatorium will showcase the life and teachings of the Saint. Swami Mitranandaji and Swami Chaitanyanandaji will enlighten the people on this special occasion on September 15 at 6 pm at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture, Shillong.
