SHILLONG: The KHADC CEM Pynshngaiñ N Syiem has favoured creation of a space for the representatives of various traditional bodies in the Executive Committee (EC) of the Council.
“The issue was discussed in the Executive Committee.  There was a consensus among the members of the EC on this,” Syiem said while addressing the meeting organized to distribute fresh “sanad” (appointment letters) to the Rangbah Shnong of the 30 Dorbar Shnong within Shillong and its outskirts here on Tuesday.
The KHADC CEM said: “The presence of the representatives of the traditional bodies would also mean that the Executive Committee (EC) cannot act according to its ‘whims and fancies’,”.
The KHADC CEM also suggested the Dorbar Hima, Dorbar Raid and Dorbar Shnong to create their own electoral college in order to elect their own representatives to the Federation of Traditional Dorbar (FTD).
“We are also contemplating to frame a law on the formation of the FTD,” Syiem said.
“Time has come for each of us who are heading various traditional institutions and the KHADC to stand united to overcome the challenges from the outside forces like the State and Central Governments,” he added.
The KHADC CEM said that the Council had passed the KHAD (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headmen) Rules, 2015 with  the sole objective to re-empower the traditional institutions following the December 10 ruling of the High Court.
Meanwhile, Syiem of Mylliem Laborious Syiem said that the passing of the KHADC (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headmen) Rules, 2015″ which empowers the traditional institutions in accordance with the United Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headmen) Act, 1959 has pave way for the traditional heads including Rangbah Shnong to carry out their day to day functions like before.
It may be mentioned that the 30 Rangbah Shnong falling under the umbrella Synjuk ki Durbar Shnong Pynthorumkhrah-Mawpat, the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Shilliang Umkhen and the Mawlai Town Durbar (MTD) were given the fresh sanad by the Syiem of Mylliem.
The Syiem of Mylliem also administered the oath of office to the Rangbah Shnong who were given the fresh sanad.
