Dissemination workshop
The Directorate of Census Operations, Meghalaya, Ministry of Home Affairs, will e hold a one-day data dissemination workshop on Census 2011 data regarding, education, disability, marital status and religion on September 17 at Hotel Yalana, Laitumkhrah, from 10 am.
Mock drill
The office of the Sub Divisional Office (C) Sohra Civil Division conducted a mock drill on earthquake to increase awareness about disaster preparedness, mitigation and response at Kliehshnong, Sohra, recently. The mock drill was conducted with the assistant of the local Dorbar, State Disaster Response Force Team, Police and all the line departments of Sohra Sub Division, besides a faculty member from MATI, Shillong as observer.
RSS seminar
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh organised a seminar on ‘Swami Vivekananda’s message to the youth and its relevance in today’s world’ at RB Anoopchand Hindi Sec. School, Keating Road on Sunday. The programme was attended by youths from different parts of the city.
Demand for NEHU V-C
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJP Youth Wing), Meghalaya, has sent a letter to Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Smriti Irani, regarding problems in NEHU due to the non availability of a full-fledged Vice Chancellor which has directly affected 65 colleges under NEHU and around 4000 students and scholars.
Hindi Divas observed
The North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong observed Hindi Divas on September 14 at NEC, Shillong in the presence of NEC Secretary, officers and staff. The Hindi Pakhawara (fortnight) will be observed till Sept 28.
CAG report forwarded
The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Social, Economic General and Economic (PSUs) Sector for the year ended March 31, 2014, has been forwarded to the Meghalaya Government for laying in the state legislature.
Sankardeva Tithi observed
Srimanta Sankardev cultural centre, Bishnupur celebrated the Tithi of Sankardev in a three-day colorful programme. On Sept 13 Prof. Bimal Majumdar and Prof. Jagannath Barman from Guwahati took part as special guests in a religious discourse. On Sept 14 a colourful cultural programme was staged in DKD Hall attended by noted Assamese cine artists Gyanada Kakati and Nishita Goswami. A cultural evening was staged by student of Sankardev Sangeet Vidyalaya. On Sept 15 Ankiya Bhaona was performed by the local artist on the premise of Naamghar.
NPP member resigns
A member of the National People’s Party, Tengsil W Momin, has informed about her resignation from the party. In her letter of resignation addressed to MP and party president, P.A. Sangma, Momin informed that she along with 20 other newly-enrolled members were resigning from the party with immediate effect.
