New Delhi: Afghanistan defeated Meghalaya 1-0 with Rashed scoring the lone goal in 27th minute in the  match, where the second foreign team was participating in the 56th Subroto Cup football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Kreeda Shiksha made an impressive start to their campaign in the sub-junior boys (Under-14) section with a convincing 2-1 victory over Namchi Sports Hostel (Sikkim).
With just two foreign teams in fray in the U-14 sections, it was a good outing for the team from Dhaka, considering the reputation Namchi Sports Hostel teams have built over the years since the days of Bhaichung Bhutia.
Earlier in the day, the schoolboys from Goa taught a lesson in football to Coast Guard Public School from Daman in Pool G with 10-0 win.
It was a hapless side from Daman and Diu. The Goans, on the other hand, scored at will as the Daman boys could hardly cross the half-line. Shamom A Viega was the star player for the winners as he struck three goals, opening his side’s account in the second minute and following it up with a goal each in the eighth and 36th minutes.
In another match Sainik School from Imphal went about the task methodically against St. John’s School from Chandigarh with a 4-0 result. In junior girls (U-17) category, which opened on  the match played in Wednesday, SP Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Tamil Nadu beat Presbyterian English School, Mizoram 6-0 while in the other outing, Meghalaya thrashed Kerala 8-0.
