Arunachal Guv surveys flood affected areas

Itanagar:Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa on Wednesday conducted an aerial survey of the flood affected areas in the state to assess the quantum of damages caused in the recent monsoon deluge.
The Governor, accompanied by state Water Resources Development minister Kamlung Mosang, Parliamentary secretaries Gum Tayeng and Mutchu Mithi, departmental chief engineer (West zone) L Angu, Relief and Rehabilitation secretary T T Gamdik conducted the over three-hour aerial survey of Doimukh, Likabali, Pasighat, Mebo, Dambuk, Roing, Tezu and Namsai.
Later at Raj Bhawan, Rajkhowa said, “Though the water level in most of the areas have receded, the state government should speed up relief and rehabilitation work to bring respite to the flood-affected people.
Anpum village under Paglam circle of Lower Dibang Valley district is completely devastated by the merger of Taro Tamuk and Dotung rivers, while the residents of two villages in the circle have been asked to shift,” he said.
“We must develop a sense of commitment and ensure that the flood victims get adequate relief and rehabilitation package,” the Governor said.  “If the government wants my assistance in mitigating the sufferings of the flood-affected people I am ready to help. I will take up the issue with the Centre for adequate fund if required,” he added.
The department chief engineer apprised the Governor of the new schemes to be submitted to the DoNER Ministry through the NEC for sanction of funds under Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) for flood protection works.
The Governor suggested the department take up survey of all weak points of  all major rivers in the state, which were prone to erosion and plan for permanent schemes to end  flood woes.
Expressing concern over low water level in all major rivers  immediately after the Monsoons, the Governor said “the state government should ensure all ecological aspects are taken care of before going for mega dams. I support hydropower of small capacity. ”
Earlier on Sunday, Tuki also conducted an aerial survey and announced an amount of Rs  5 crore as flood relief and directed the respective district administrations to conduct proper assessment of losses and submit the details to the state government for further release of funds. (PTI)
