NPP too fields non-tribal in GHADC polls

TURA/SHILLONG: Despite opposition from several quarters, PA Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP) has also allotted ticket to a non-tribal candidate for the December 12 GHADC polls.
Just as Congress has allotted a party ticket to non-tribal candidate Monirul Islam for Balachanda and Sader Hossain for Shyamnagar, NPP has fielded SG Ematur Momin for Shyamnagar. He filed his nomination on Wednesday at Tura.
Meanwhile, two other non-tribal candidates filed their nomination papers in West Garo Hills on Wednesday. They are Sofiur Rahman and Inamur Islam, both Independents. They filed their nominations for Balachanda and Shyamnagar, respectively.
Sitting MDC and NPP leader Roynath D Sangma filed his nomination for Batabari, Jesse Marak (Independent) from Babelapara, sitting MDC Kredithson Ch Marak (UDP) from Asanang, Jimberth Marak from Amongpara (Garo National Council), Pillarson D Marak (Ind) from Dengnakpara, Mackinson ChM arak (NPP) from Babelapara, Sotendro M Marak (Ind) from Batabari and Sitting MDC Dipul R Marak (NPP) from Rochonpara.
In South Garo Hills only a lone Independent candidate, Bidith Ch Marak, filed his nomination to contest from the Siju constituency where sitting MDC and outgoing CEM of the GHADC Alphonse A Sangma is seeking a return to the council for another term.
BJP releases list : Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has announced the list of six candidates for the October 12 GHADC polls after being approved by the central leaders of the party on Wednesday.  The candidates are Mose Sangma for Babelapara seat, Bipalab Marak(Balachanda), Iqbal Ch. Marak (Shyamnagar), and Ranjit Rabha (Naguapara), all West Garo Hills. While  Bhupendra Hajong will contest from Zikzak from South West Garo Hills, Mohiran Hajong will vie for Betasing.
