Police ready to face challenges, says Roshan

SHILLONG: Home Minister  Roshan Warjri has asserted that  police was committed to thwart any attempt by militants and miscreants to create law and order problem through better intelligence gathering, use of  sophisticated weapons  and constantly checking  the cross -border smuggling  of weapons.
In reply to a call attention motion moved by Witting Mawsor (HSPDP) on the spurt in activities of various militant groups in Shallang area of West Khasi  Hills, the Home Minister said that  combing operations had been carried out to bust the areas of operation of GNLA and AMEF in Shallang and its surrounding areas last month.
She said following the operations, an over ground worker of GNLA, Bostik was arrested on September 14. Earlier, moving the call attention motion, Mawsor feared  that if the state government is not keen to address the havoc being  created by the militants, there will be a  time when  the militants will not hesitate to attack , the Secretariat and Assembly  besides other important government establishments.
Warjri said that in addition to various other measures, the state government has instituted a State Level Standing Committee with Chief Secretary as Chairman with a view to have proper co-ordination between state police forces, para-military forces and various intelligence agencies in the state.
