CEM, 58 others file nomination for ADC polls

Ex-SGH DC joins poll fray
TURA: Outgoing CEM of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and Congress MDC Alphonse A Sangma and a former deputy commissioner were among 59 candidates to file their nomination papers on Friday for the October 12 polls.
Alphonse filed his nomination for Siju constituency. Three other candidates also filed their nomination papers from the same constituency – Kenadik S Marak (Ind), Pendindro M Sangma (UDP) and Albinush R Marak (NPP).
In Wagesik constituency sitting MDC and Congress candidate Freederson N Sangma who is facing corruption allegations of MDC schemes in his area filed his nomination papers also. Three other opponents, namely Rangrick R Marak (Ind), Plebirth M Sangma (UDP and Sengnal N Sangma (NPP) also filed their nomination from the same constituency.
There were three candidates to file nominations for Silkigre constituency of Chokpot block – Tangseng S Marak (Ind), Nilath S Marak (NPP) and Jeshwell Ch Marak (Congress).
In Rongrikkimgre constituency nominations were filed by Wenison Ch Marak (GNC), Willy D Shira (Congress), Pangrak Ch Sangma (NPP) and Mothi T Sangma (Ind).
In Gasuapara seat Sengchim N Sangma (NPP) and Olendro R Marak (Congress) filed their nominations.
West Garo Hills district having the largest number of MDC seats has also witnessed the highest number of aspirants filing nominations    throughout the week with as many as 23 submitting their papers on Friday.
In Tura seat alone there were six candidates including former deputy commissioner of South Garo Hills and one of the few woman civil service officers from Meghalaya, Arlene Maine N Sangma, who filed their nomination papers. The former bureaucrat will be contesting as an Independent candidate.
The retired civil service officer had previously contested the state assembly elections from Chokpot constituency narrowly missing out.
Besides Arlene, five other candidates filed their nomination papers for Tura including Dr. H. Jimmy Momin (NPP) and Tinash Marak (UDP), besides three Independents – Joyonto K Marak, Clady R Marak and Rupert M Sangma.
Others were Bolison D Sangma and Kurosh M Marak, both Independents, for Barengapara seat; Mose Sangma (BJP) and sitting MDC Besterfield Sangma for Babelapara, Danial N Sangma (Ind) and Stiner R Marak (NPP) for Amongpara, Modi M Sangma (Ind) for Dengnakpara, Mingnen Marak (Ind) and Gresowarsh Sangma (Ind) for Rochonpara, Eubrenald N Marak and Rakseng Marak (Independents) for Asanang.
In Balachanda, Shasa Zaman (Ind) along with Biplob Marak of the BJP and former Congressman Keeperfield G Momin filed their nominations, while in Shyamnagar it was the BJP’s Iqbal Ch Marak.
Mrinal Marak (Ind) and Ranjit Rabha (BJP) filed nomination from Naguapara.
Three candidates each from the UDP and Congress and one Independent filed their nomination papers for three constituencies of East Garo Hills on Friday.
For Samandagre constituency Congress candidate Lahitson M Sangma and UDP’s Silman N Marak filed nomination while in Darugre constituency it was Congress candidate Builthon Sangma and Henen R Sangma of the UDP.
Another prestigious constituency is Williamnagar where former Congress MDC Mahamsing M Sangma filed his nomination as a UDP candidate alongside Sengbath Marak of the Congress and Independent Gatdin M Sangma.
Seven candidates filed their nomination papers for the constituencies of Zikzak, Boldamgre and Nogorpara on Friday.
Sitting NPP MDC and nephew of P.A. Sangma, Boston Marak, filed his nomination from his present constituency of Nogorpara besides three Independents – Hellwithson A Marak, Azranath M Momin and Monjoraj D Shira.
In Boldamgre NPP candidate Larson N Sangma and Independent Emanuel Bismark R Sangma submitted their nominations. In Zikzak Bhupendra B Hajong (BJP) was the lone candidate to file his nomination.
As many as eleven candidates filed their nomination papers for four MDC constituencies in North Garo Hills District on Friday.
Sitting NPP MDC Sukaram K Sangma and Thomson Marak (INC) filed their nomination for Rongrong constituency.
In Damas constituency, sitting NCP MLA of Mendipathar Marthon Sangma’s wife Jingje D Shira filed her papers as the Congress candidate alongside former MDC Dolly K Sangma who is contesting on an NPP ticket.
In Kharkutta constituency Smith Momin of the Congress, Edbirth D Shira of the NPP and Independent Harlding Marak filed their nomination papers.
For Bolsong constituency Jogonsing Sangma of the Congress, Rakman Marak of the NPP and two Independents Mexton Marak and former CEM Winsang Sangma filed their nomination papers.
