Srinagar: Massive protests erupted in some areas of the Baramulla district after the recovery of a bullet-riddled body of a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander from a paddy field on Saturday morning.
Traffic on Srinagar-Gulmarg road was disrupted for several hours following protests after the recovery of the body of HM commander Fayaz Ahmad from a paddy field at Devbugh Kunzar.
On September 15, a strangulated body of a local youth was recovered in the Kunzar area, evoking massive protests disrupting traffic on Gulmarg road for about six hours.
People, mostly youths again took to the streets again protesting against the killing of  Fayaz. Raising ”pro- freedom” slogans, the demonstrators blocked the main road.
Security forces and state police personnel immediately rushed to the area and resorted to lathicharge which had no impact on demonstrators who were pelting stones.
Later, security forces burst teargas shells and restored traffic on the Gulmarg road. However, stone pelting in the interior areas continued, official sources said.
Security forces resorted to repeated lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators who had blocked Srinagar-Baramulla road at Pattan.
Additional security forces had been rushed to the area to maintain law and order, they said. (UNI)
