Shillong: Shillong Lajong mustered up yet another win in the Shillong Premier League beating Nangkiew Irat 2-1 on Saturday at the J N Stadium following a brace by youngster Lalrammuana.
Nangkiew Irat showed promise early on even though the Reds came close to securing a quick lead after Lajong forward Bipin’s shot missed the goal by a whisker.
The deadlock was finally broken by Lajong in the 39th minute when a piercing left footer by Lalrammuana beat the keeper.
However, around seven minutes later, Nangkiew equalised through Banpynkhrawnam Nongkhlaw following a corner, leaving the scores tied at 1-1 by half time.
Lalrammuana made it 2-1 for the Reds in the 70th minute after receiving a pass and placing the ball into the back of the nets. Nangkiew Irat looked set for a second comeback but were unable to break the resilient Lajong defence as the scores were finalised at 2-1 in favour of Shillong Lajong.
In a high scoring Second Division match, Mawkhar put four goals past Lumshyiap for a 4-2 win.
Alem Khongwir (5 & 62) and Nungshimua Jamer (47 & 73) scored twice each for Mawkhar after trailing by a goal at one point of time in the match.
Lumshyiap first levelled the scores in the 17th minute through Pura Nongbri before Artish Nongsiej put them in the lead with a 31st minute goal.
Lumshyiap then conceded three goals in succession to lose out by a substantial 4-2 margin.
Meanwhile, Lapalang and Krang drew 0-0 in a Third Division game while later in the day, Umlyngka demolished Alma Villa 5-0 for an easy three points.
