SHILLONG: The implementing agency of the landslide-prone National Highway 40 has expressed keenness to install CCTV cameras along the expressway.
Sources informed that the implementing agency has already approached the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for installation of CCTV cameras along the 103 km Shillong-Guwahati highway.
“We have already identified the places where CCTV cameras can be fitted and it depends on the NHAI to give its approval on the matter,” sources said.
The CCTV cameras can be used effectively to respond to accidents and also help in traffic management along the highway.
Sources said that the implementing agency will have to lay cables if the NHAI wants it to install CCTV cameras. Sources also informed that CCTV cameras will also be installed at the toll gates in Umpling which will be opened shortly.
