1300 cancer patients underwent treatment in civil hospitals last year

SHILLONG: As many as 1300 cancer patients underwent treatment in the Shillong and Tura civil hospitals in the last one year.
This was informed by Health Minister AL Hek in the Assembly on Wednesday.
In reply to a question by Jemino Mawthoh (UDP), the Health Minister said that the assistance provided for cancer patients in Shillong Civil Hospital was radiation therapy using Cobalt 60 therapy unit, surgery and chemotherapy, while Tura Civil Hospital had only chemotherapy. To a supplementary question, the Health Minister said that the construction work of the cancer wing of Shillong Civil Hospital was in progress.    Raising a supplementary question, Mawthoh said that there must have been more than 1300 cancer patients in the state in the last one year and doubted the figure provided by the Minister.
