NDFB(S) dy commander, 6 jihadis arrested in Assam

Guwahati: Security forces in Assam on Friday arrested a self-styled leader of the banned Bodo militant outfit NDFB(S) and six jihadi elements in two separate operations in Chirang district of Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District Council (BTAD) .
Security forces arrested the self-styled deputy commander-in-chief, of the NDFB(S), Rabi Basumatary alias Rongjabaja along with his body guard from Chirang district.
A defence source informed that the joint operation was launched in the wee hours by the Indian Army, Assam Police and the SSB, under the leadership of the Army, Inspector General of Police BTAD, SP Chirang and the Deputy Commandant of 54 SSB. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence near Hakua river in Chirang district.
The apprehended personal security officer of the NDFB leader was identified as Jwnglaw Narzary. One AK 56 rifle, 170 rounds of AK ammunition, 50 rounds of INSAS ammunition and four hand grenades were recovered from them.
The self -styled deputy commander in chief of the NDFB (S) was involved in thekilling of Naryan Barman, the then In-charge Rupsi police outpost, Kokrajhar district on September 26, 2013.
In another operation conducted on Friday by police and CRPF simultaneously in several places under Amguri Police Station areas of Chirang district arrested six suspected jihadi elements namely, Noor Mahammad, Malek Sheikh, Mostafa Mandal, Hafijur Ali, Suleman Ali and Mofijul Islam. Police also recovered two hand-made rifles, two pistols from the apprehended persons.
All the arrested were brought to Panbari police station in Chirang district for further interrogation.
Security forces have mounted vigil against jihadi elements in Assam’s BTAD areas and neighbouring Barpeta and Nalbari districts due to the recent stir in the wake of busting of a Jihadi module in Chirang district last week in which another six jihadi elements were arrested and arms recovered.
