Mumbai: Prayers for the well-being of farmers in Maharashtra who are suffering due to deficient rainfall this season were offered during the Eid-ul-Azha namaz across the mosques in the megapolis on Friday. Appeals were also made to donate for the farmers’ cause. In several places, the community members chose to donate ‘Qurbani’ money for the welfare of farmers.
Malaunas at various mosques appealed to the devotees to pray for peace and not violate the government’s ban on beef during the ritual sacrifice.
They were also asked to help the distressed farmers in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Many Muslims also donated money to NAM Foundation, set up by the actors Nana Patekar and Makrand Anaspure, for the distressed farmers. They were impressed by Patekar’s appeal to farmers to take inspiration from the Islam which deems suicide to be a sin. (PTI)
