SHILLONG: A year after signing the Agreed Text for Settlement with the Centre and the Meghalaya Government, the ANVC has said that the signatories of the pact are yet to get an audience with the Government to discuss their various grievances.
It was on September 24 last year that a peace pact known as Agreed Text for Settlement was signed by ANVC and ANVC-B with the State and Central governments in Delhi.
However, a year after, there has been no progress on the peace pact apart from the formation of various committees by the State Government to discuss the points in the Agreed Text for Settlement.
When contacted, former ANVC general secretary Wanding Marak told The Shillong Times that they were waiting for a meeting with the Government to air their various suggestions
While the former leaders of ANVC-B have decided to contest the October 12 GHADC elections, the parent organisation ANVC has asserted that its members would not contest the polls as they will wait for fulfillment of the Agreed Text for Settlement.
“We will neither contest the polls nor support any political party or individual in the GHADC polls as our priority now is the realization of the Agreed Text for Settlement,” he asserted.
While the Agreed Text of Settlement does not mention any special financial package to develop Garo Hills, the Centre is yet to give any commitment on the one time package of Rs.2.5 lakh for each cadre.
Moreover, the Centre is yet to reply on the continuation of the stipend of Rs.3,500 for each cadre which was stopped over six months back.
