Shillong United, Langsning play a dull draw in SPL
Shillong: Shillong United and Langsning drew goalless in a Shillong Premier League match at Polo Grounds on Monday. Neither side was able to capitalise on several opportunities built during the match before sharing points. In Second Division, Sohryngkham and Umpling drew 2-2 after the latter side took a 23rd minute lead through Abor Phawa. Sohryngkham came back in the game after Iarbok Kshiar equalised in the 41st minute before converting a penalty in the 55th minute. But Francis Langstieh ensured Umpling avoided defeat, scoring for them late in the 82nd minute as the match ended in a 2-2 result. Sanmer and Lumpyngad played a 2-2 score in a Third Division game while in another match Mawryngkneng fired four goals past Lumdiengjri’s one to complete a 4-1 success.
Button to continue with McLaren for next season
Johannesburg: Former World Champion Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso will continue to race for their team McLaren in 2016. Confirming the news, team boss Ron Dennis said that Jenson is staying with McLaren, adding that he has a two-year contract with the team that would not be changed, Sport24 reported. Dennis, who had an option to terminate Button’s contract before September 30, asserted that he never had any intention to exercise the option to terminate. Earlier, Button had declared that he would quit Formula One if he doesn’t continue with his current team McLaren. It was also speculated that Button, after his retirement, would switch to the famous Le Mans-style World Endurance Championship. (ANI)
Wenger slams Mourinho over ‘the king’ remark
London: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hits back at Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho for his remark that the former is ‘the king’ after he won an appeal against Gabriel’s dismissal. Reacting to this, The Mirror quoted Wenger, as saying that he was doing his job, adding that he just wanted his team to perform well. After Wenger’s appeal to FA, Chelsea striker Diego Costa was handed a three- match ban for ‘violent conduct’ against Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny during their Premier League clash. The Spanish international was caught striking Koscielny with his hand twice before involving in an altercation with Arsenal’s defender Gabriel . Subsequently, both Arsenal players were given marching orders that left Arsene Wenger ‘s side being reduced to nine men in their 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge. But that decision was overturned after the truth was caught on video. (ANI)
Rooney predicts Martial will be ManU’s next big player
London: Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has lauded teammate Anthony Martial , saying that the new appointee will provide his club with some magical moments and will turn out to be a big player in the future. The 29-year-old said that Martial, who became world’s most expensive football teenager after joining United, is a young man who has made an incredible start, the Daily Express reported. After United’s manager Louis Van Gaal denied talking about Premier league title talks, Rooney also said that it is too early to talk about this as there are many more games to be played. Rooney further said that it feels quite nice to be at the top, adding that his team needs to keep progressing and improving if they want to sustain their place in the ongoing League. (ANI)
